Wedding Feature – Sarah & Sam

Sarah and Sam have been a couple since they went to homecoming during freshman year of high school.  Can you get over how adorable that is? We certainly can’t! Their wedding was a mix of staying true to their country roots but also incorporating unexpected glamorous touches.  Sarah’s shoes were blingy and fabulous, as was her sweetheart mermaid gown.  The diamond detailing on her pumps is stunning. If you are looking to add a little glamour to your wedding outfit without being too glitzy, this works perfectly.

Her bridesmaids wore eye-catching Alfred Sung dresses in Appletini Dupioni on the Big Day, all refreshingly individual and beautiful in the styles of their choice. Their bouquets of brightly colored purple, pink, and yellow wild flowers really popped in the photos and stayed very true to the country theme.  Sarah held a humble and tasteful white bouquet.

The Weddington Way team is obsessed with the hay bale photos.  It was such an inventive way to incorporate a barn theme into an otherwise elegant affair.  The hay bales, arranged in “S & S” for “Sarah & Sam” were a positively brilliant concept for wedding photos.  The little pockets of wheat to toss on the happy couple as they made their return trip down the aisle added a ranch touch, as did the pinwheel table setting, freshly pressed strawberry lemonade, and vanilla cupcakes in delicate decorative holders.

We love the chandeliers hanging from the wooden rafters above the dance floor, as well as the groom’s cool suspenders. The bride and groom drove away in an antique truck, a fitting ending to their ranch-chic day.  Ladies, if you want an elegant wedding that’s homage to the place you grew-up in, let Sarah and Sam inspire you.  They certainly inspired us.

Thank you, Sarah and Sam, for sharing memories from your special, beautiful day with us!

Wedding Feature – Divya and Ben

Welcome to our wedding feature for Divya and Ben’s fabulous wedding!  Divya and Ben’s Northern California celebration is the paragon of a modern Indian wedding.  Ben is the founder of Pinterest, and Divya is a Facebook employee, so it’s no surprise that the wedding was visually striking, with many playful touches. Ben grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, while Divya grew up in Bangalore, India. They met in Washington DC, then decided to head west to California.  They wanted to celebrate California’s powerful natural beauty by choosing a forest venue, while combining Indian and Western traditions. The canopy of Redwood trees provided a majestic backdrop to vibrant yellow, orange, blue and gold hues.

For the ceremony, Divya embraced her Indian heritage by wearing a show-stopping gold sari and sporting intricate Mehndi designs on her hands.  She wore dainty sling back heels, complete with sequined bows.  After the traditional ceremony, she slipped on a modern mermaid style-wedding gown, as well as delicate hair rosettes for her reception.

The many bridesmaids looked exquisite in various styles of Alfred Sung dresses in Ebony peau de soie. They sported a whimsically mismatched rainbow assortment of heels, giving the wedding a light-hearted vibe.  Weddington Way loves when bridesmaids don various dress styles, because each girl looks beautiful in her neckline of choice, whether it be a strapless, high, scooped or a cutout silhouette. The gold of Divya’s sari and the rich blue of her bridesmaid’s dresses created a sophisticated color palette that melded with the greens and browns of the trees and foliage.

The orange and yellow marigolds are traditional Indian wedding flowers.  They looked elegant suspended around the mandap, or alter.  But the marigolds, or ‘genda’ as they are called in Hindi, were fresh and modern as table arrangements, boutonnières, and cake decorations.  It’s clear that the couple has a modern outlook and mentality, while being respectful of the time-honored traditions of Divya’s culture.

The couple’s good friend, Andres Montano, designed the adorable graphic wedding invitations, table cards, welcome table decorations, and table numbers.  These funky bold designs added flare and pizzazz.  Divya’s mother brought back dozens of kites from India to give as party favors, an authentic touch.

Thank you, Ben and Divya, for sharing your stunning and unique wedding with us!

Notes from our Stylists: Wear-Again-Worthy Bridesmaid Dresses!

The 2008 movie 27 Dresses, starring James Marsden and Katherine Heigl, was a hilarious comedy about the trials of being a serial bridesmaid. Although the movie was clearly exaggerated, most women do worry about being obliged to wear gaudy, trendy bridesmaid dresses. Thankfully twenty-first century brides can toss away their worries, and their closet stuffed full of outdated dresses. Never before have bridesmaids dresses been so beautiful, wearable, and timeless. Given the current trend of neutrals like pale pink, cream, camel, and elegant grey tones, one can easily transition from bridesmaids dress to party dress.

Here are a few dresses we find wearable and classic:

Watters Style 7594 in Falcon WTOO Style 187 in Buff Lela Rose Style LR107 in Silk Taffeta Alfred Sung Style D518 in Dupioni WTOO Style 177
Style 7594 in Crinkle Chiffon Style 187 in Crinkle Chiffon  Style LR107 in Silk Taffeta Style D518 in Dupioni Style 177 in Taffeta
This sweetheart necked, above the knee crinkle chiffon dress will look sophisticated at a wedding with neutral shoes, a gold necklace, and a chic chignon.  Transition to a night out with a bold green statement necklace, pink pumps, and long, loose waves. This buff colored crinkle chiffon dress will be sweet and ethereal for a garden wedding, with a pink bouquet and rose quartz jewelry.  Then pack it for a romantic weekend away, pairing it with gold flats, a cute white cardigan and a floral headband. This pale blue dress will look perfect at a Cape Cod Wedding with a pink clutch and pearls.  Wear it with simple white sandals, a Lilly Pulitzer scarf, and a ponytail for a champagne brunch, or a stroll around town on a summer’s day. The champagne colored luxurious dupioni dress reminds us of Jackie O for its classic good taste.  Match it with black patent peep-toe pumps and a dramatic cat eye for a formal city wedding.  Break it out for a New Years Eve cocktail party by adding a sexy waist-cinching belt, red stilettos and playful finger waves. This gown is elegant and understated, ideal for an evening wedding.  Wear it to the opera, or to another wedding as a guest, by pairing it with a colorful jewel drop necklace and a loose, low-set bun, adding a pashmina if it gets chilly.  If you’re feeling really brave, have it shortened to a super mini cocktail dress after your friend’s big day.

Carly and Corey

My favorite part was the fact that it was so interactive. I was able to pick out the dresses I wanted my girls to choose from, and they could log in and pick their favorite. Then, I could could go to my account and it showed me who had ordered their dress and which one they had picked. It made it so convenient and I didn’t have to worry about chasing down each girl to make sure they ordered their dress on time.
