We wanted a very modern, elegant wedding. We chose a color palette of white/gray/black, which went well with our venue. The Crocker Art Museum has a contemporary wing that has very clean lines and tall white walls. Our reception and cocktail hour were held outside in the museum courtyard and our reception was on the first floor of the museum. I knew immediately that I wanted my bridesmaids in slate gray dresses but wanted them to pick their own styles. We also had gray linens as well as a gray wedding cake!
It is such an amazing process to spend so much time planning such a big event and then to see it all come together for your enjoyment and your guests. Jim and I wanted to incorporate are various cultures at our wedding and thus we had a Chinese Lion Dance and a classical Portuguese singer perform that night. We also had a visit from Dumb and Dumber (i.e. Jim’s younger brothers dressed in orange and blue suits) who gave wonderful toasts. We were so grateful to be surrounded by our family members, who are very important to us and to have various people from different stages in our lives all together in one place at one time!
Jim and I both attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY for our undergraduate education. However, we did not know each other there and only spent one overlapping semester while in school. To show support for our alma mater, we both attended a local alumni event in Sacramento, CA during the summer of 2010. It was there that Jim and I met and started talking about running, one of our common interests as well as our hobbies and families. We talked for quite a while that night and from that point on, we became virtually inseparable. We were married 14 months later in Sacramento!
